Lombok Sumbawa

YOUNG residents of West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) have been invited to contest the position of Tourism Ambassador for the province in 2011.
The NTB Culture and Tourism Office will elect the Ambassador from unmarried residents aged 20 to 25 years who are competent in at least one foreign language and have extensive knowledge of local culture and tourism.
The position of Ambassador of NTB Tourism is important as the province strives to develop tourism and achieve a target of attracting one million visitors to Lombok and Sumbawa in 2012. The Ambassador is expected to participate in promotional activities outside of NTB and possible overseas.
NTB Cultural head H Mahdi said the winner would be announced at a Mataram hotel in April. Interested and eligible applicants should register with the Cultural department of the Culture and Tourism Office at Jl Langko No. 70 Mataram, telephone 0370-640471, 0370-637828 or 08819 1725 6144. Inquiries may be directed to Lalu Wire or Ibu Rini (0819 1729 2295).
“Prospective participants outside of Mataram may obtain information from their regional Culture and Tourism offices,” said Mahdi. Information had been available at the offices and other strategic points since December, he said.
Applicants would be required to show their security cards, as proof of their residency of NTB, or their student cards if they were studying in other regions, he said.
They then must complete a registration form and supply biographical data to the event’s committee for assessment. Mahdi urged applicants to quickly deliver their material to the Culture and Tourism office in Mataram or to fax it to 0370 637174.
Applicants should be at least 165 centimetres tall and have an attractive appearance he said, adding that English was a preferred foreign language.
“The person chosen as NTB Tourism Ambassador 2011 will receive a cash award, trophies, and certificates,” said Mahdi. “For a year he or she will be the spokesperson for NTB tourism and travel out of the area, and even abroad, to promote NTB tourism.”
